Study, Reflection, & Meditation Retreat on Mental Factors

26-31 DECEMBER 2022

There are many causes for the happiness we experience and the suffering we undergo, but the main ones are internal. The study of the mind is fundamental in order to unmistakably discern which thoughts to cultivate and which to discard. It is therefore essential to learn how to come to know one's own mind and thoughts well. Shakyamuni Buddha invites us to do just this in the sutras: "Let us become our own protector, our own support, our own master." This is necessary to gain results from our practice and to feel happier.

RETREAT DETAILS

The retreat will take place online via Zoom or in person at the Yigatcheudzine temple in Veneux-Les Sablons.

Based on translations of root texts, transcripts of Venerable Dagpo Rinpoche's teaching, and a retreat guidebook, participants will study and meditate on the mental factors according to a well-structured programme. Each participant progresses at his or her own pace. The aim is not to go fast but to make a lasting, positive change in one's own mind. Each day's activities are divided into four sessions: (1) recitations based on the Ganden Lha Gyama, (2) individual study and memorization based on Arya Asanga's definitions and accompanying commentaries, (3) review in pairs followed by questions and answers with an experienced student, and (4) reflection and silent meditation.

CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION

This study, reflection, and meditation retreat is open to people who are studying and practising the Buddha's teachings and who meet certain criteria: regular attendance at Venerable Dagpo Rinpoche's teachings and some previous study of the subject of mind and mental factors (e.g. in a study group or at a guided retreat on this topic). Certain exceptions can be made with the agreement of Rinpoche, and any such requests should be discussed with the organizers.

As the retreat is quite intense, before registering please consult the programme timetable as well as the detailed information document below. Due to time zone differences, there are separate timetables for the Asian and European programmes:
