7. Refuge
OVERVIEW
Confronted with many hardships, whether internal or external, or witnessing all the torments inflicted on others, is there a refuge, a protection? These teachings show us how placing our trust in the Buddha - the Instructor who shows us the way, in the dharma - the teaching which encompasses all the qualities that may manifest in us, and in the saṅgha - the community who inspires us and accompanies us along the way, can allow us to be liberated from the bondage of suffering and even reach perfect Enlightenment.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THESE TEACHINGS?
Taking refuge is a state of mind that is both very simple and extraordinarily vast, since it is said to contain all of the Buddha's teachings. With extreme pedagogy, Rinpoche gradually introduces us to this fundamental subject by describing in turn the causes on which it is based, in which objects to take refuge, from when it becomes effective, its benefits as well as the precepts to be observed after having taken refuge. Based on Maitreya's Uttaratantra, Rinpoche reveals to us on this occasion the profound nature of Enlightenment, of the teaching and of the community of practitioners that accompanies us along the way.

These teachings will allow you to better identify and cultivate - if you wish - this state of mind which constitutes the gateway to Buddhism.
