The three principles of the path - English Root Text - 2022

OVERVIEW

Jé Tsongkhapa performs the extraordinary feat of condensing the “essential meaning of the Conqueror’s entire teaching” into just fourteen stanzas while speaking to us directly, giving vivid, concrete guidance, like touchstones for practitioners to use along the way.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THESE TEACHINGS?

The three principles of the path that constitute the three qualities that form the basis of the path to complete enlightenment:

  1. Renunciation from samsara —  genuine wish to be free.
  2. Bodhicitta the aspiration to achieve complete enlightenment for the benefit of all beings, others and oneself.
  3. Excellent views — wisdom that understands emptiness directly.
Indeed, practitioners first realize renunciation, then on this basis develop great compassion which enables them to generate the spirit of enlightenment. From there, they enter the path of the great vehicle and realise conceptually and then directly the excellent views, the wisdom understanding emptiness.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

Through this succinct yet complete presentation of the entire Buddhist path, we will learn how relevant and practical these teachings are for us as a guide that will inspire to walk in the footsteps of the enlightenment beings, while giving us the concrete means to do so.
