The six preliminary practices - Bordeaux - 2015

OVERVIEW

Rinpoche comments on a collection of Buddhist instructions entitled The Necklace of the Fortunate, whose author was the renowned master Dagpo Lama Rinpoche Losang Jhampäl Lhündrup Gyatso (1845-1919). This work is based on the Tibetan kadampa tradition, precursor of the gelukpa school. It consists of a set of prayers and meditations that prepare for lamrim meditation, the gradual path to enlightenment. Belonging to the genre of "djorchö", translated as "preliminary practices", its practice makes it possible to bring together the conditions favorable to obtaining the qualities of this path, such as unconditional love, universal compassion or the wisdom that understands reality. This teaching was given at the request of the Kadam Tcheuling Bordeaux dharma center for two consecutive years. This is the first part.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THESE TEACHINGS?

With infinite patience and great clarity, Rinpoche introduces us to this vast and profound practice, in a way that is both very concrete, close to everyday life, and very penetrating, opening us to a radically different way of being, based on altruism and wisdom. Rinpoche presents more specifically in turn:
    1. The importance of the six preliminary practices
    2. The origin of this practice
    3. How to arrange a Buddhist altar
    4. The meditation posture
    5. Visualizations associated with the different moments of prayer and meditation
    6. Taking refuge
    7. The four immeasurable qualities
    8. How to offer ablutions
    9. The art of paying hommage
    10. How to address offerings through body, speech and mind
    11. The four forces of purification that make it possible to break with our destructive patterns
This first part is concluded by a bodhicitta ceremony, which constitutes an exceptional ode to altruism. Throughout this very special occasion, Rinpoche guides us step by step to bring forth or strengthen in us the aspiration to unsurpassable enlightenment for the sake of all beings. In order to facilitate the study and practice of this fundamental teaching, you may download here the English translation of the most precious text commented by Rinpoche: The Necklace of the Fortunate .
