Calling the lama from afar - Haarlem - 2017

OVERVIEW

Calling the Lama From Afar is a prayer addressed to the spiritual guide for his blessings so as to realize each of the stages of the path, and is also a meditation on the ultimate nature of the spiritual guide, and on enlightenment. Composed by Pabongkha Rinpoche Dechen Nyingpo, this short poem of exceptional depth radiates the extraordinary devotion he feels for his master, Dagpo Lama Rinpoche Lobsang Jampäl Lhündrup Gyatso, to whom it is addressed.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THESE TEACHINGS?

At the invitation of Kadam Chöling Holland, Rinpoche gave a commentary on this poem for two consecutive years. This is the first of these teachings, during which Rinpoche comments in depth on the first nine stanzas. They describe enlightenment, treating successively:

  1. Buddhahood
  2. The two Buddha bodies: dharmakāya (truth body), and rūpakāya (form body)
  3. The four Buddha bodies:  jñānadharmakāya, (wisdom truth body), svabhāvakāya (nature truth body), nirmāṇakāya (emanation body), and saṃbhogakāya (enjoyment body).
  4. The five pristine wisdoms that characterise complete enlightenment
  5. The five inconceivables
  6. Grasping at an identity and grasping at true existence

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

Rinpoche's commentary on this wonderful poem will enable you to gain a clearer understanding of the infinite qualities that accompany complete enlightenment, and will encourage you to realize them in your own mind.
