Les huit principes mondains - Avignon - 2019

OVERVIEW

"Gains and losses, happiness and pain,
Good and bad reputation, praise and criticism,
You who know the world, these eight worldly concerns,
Equalize them by banishing them from your mind."

In his Letter to a Friend, ārya Nāgārjuna invites King Gautamīputra with this stanza to overcome all concerns related to this existence alone. Through these two days of teaching given in Avignon, Rinpoche encourages us to do the same.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THESE TEACHINGS?

From his deep experience, Rinpoche shows us how to emancipate ourselves from these preoccupations which govern our daily life, causing multiple torments both to others and to ourselves by imposing actions or reactions on us which deprive us from all freedom. He thus reveals a new way of approaching:

      1. Gains and losses, by becoming more aware that our reactions to favorable or unfavorable circumstances are rooted in an identification with a false individuality
      2. Happiness and suffering, by better distinguishing between the causes of transient pleasures and true happiness
      3. Good and bad reputation, by genuinely caring about others rather than our own image
      4. Praise and criticism, by apprehending with greater clarity the three types of sufferings.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

Putting these teachings into practice will allow you to lead a truer and more sincere life. They will also be the key to making your Dharma practice more authentic, for there can be no true spiritual practice mixed with these concerns which denote a strong attachment to possessions and honours.
