The three aspects of equanimity - Monaco - 2014

OVERVIEW

Equanimity is not a mere neutrality, but a state of mind that stems from a deep wisdom that intimately understands the mechanisms of cyclic existence. Many of the difficulties we encounter come from a lack of impartiality, whereas true equanimity would be the source of infinite peace, love and compassion.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THESE TEACHINGS?

Throughout this teaching, which calls on both our qualities of wisdom and our qualities of heart, Rinpoche reveals to us the way to cultivate this fundamental quality:

  1. The three kinds of equanimity: equanimity takes on very different meanings within the teachings of the Buddha.

  2. The benefits of equanimity: it is the essential foundation for both unconditional love and truly universal compassion to flourish.

  3. The way to meditate on equanimity: it differs according to the way through which one cultivates bodhicitta and these nuances help us to deepen our experience of equanimity.

  4. How equanimity comes from the deep understanding of the mechanisms of saṃsāra: awareness of the uncertainty that permeates cyclic existence or the emergence of genuine renunciation naturally leads to equanimity.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

This luminous teaching will offer you all the instructions necessary to bring out and cultivate this great equanimity which constitutes the foundation of bodhicitta and, beyond that, of Enlightenment itself.
