Calling the lama from afar - Haarlem - 2018

OVERVIEW

Calling the Lama From Afar is a prayer addressed to the spiritual guide for his blessings so as to realize each of the stages of the path, and is also a meditation on the ultimate nature of the spiritual guide, and on enlightenment. Composed by Pabongkha Rinpoche Dechen Nyingpo, this short poem of exceptional depth radiates the extraordinary devotion he feels for his master, Dagpo Lama Rinpoche Lobsang Jampäl Lhündrup Gyatso, to whom it is addressed.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THESE TEACHINGS?

At the invitation of Kadam Chöling Holland, Rinpoche gave a commentary on this poem for two consecutive years. This is the second of these teachings, during which Rinpoche returns to the first two stanzas, which describe the nature of the spiritual guide and the nature of enlightenment. He then goes on with a complete evocation of the spiritual path, stressing the fact that each stage reminds the author of his spiritual master:

  1. The twenty one expressions of the pristine wisdom
  2. The Saṃbhogakāya (enjoyment body)'s seven qualities
  3. The nature of the spiritual master
  4. A meditation on death and impermanence
  5. A meditation on infortunate states
  6. A deep understanding of the karma and its effects
  7. An acute analysis of the nature of samsara and the means to escape it
  8. Compassion towards all beings, the spirit of enlightenment and the way to implement the six perfections rooted in the view of all phenomena's absence of real existence
  9. The Vajrayana, the three mysteries of the state of union

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

Rinpoche's commentary on this wonderful poem will enable you to gain a clearer understanding of the infinite qualities that accompany complete enlightenment, and will encourage you to realize them in your own mind.
